If you find your map is zoomed out and displaying other regions or even the entire world, it's likely because a place listing or business has been incorrectly plotted outside your preferred region. This can occur in two ways:
Facebook Places API: When a business listing is imported from the Facebook Places API, it may be plotted inaccurately if the business owner provided incorrect location details on Facebook. It is common that if the business owner has made a mistake, Facebook will automatically plot their location as latitude 0 and longitude 0 degrees, which is in the ocean off Africa. It may also be incorrect if the business owner has added it without checking it.
Address Plotting: A misplacement can also happen when you have plotted a location using an address, but the system interpreted that address to be in a different region.
ATDW: In Australia, if you are using the ATDW to plot places and you notice a pin is in the incorrect location, then you need to check within ATDW. We take the location data directly via the ATDW API, so any issues need to be fixed in ATDW.
How to Fix a Map Zooming Issue?
Don't worry! You can address this issue by following the below steps depending on your situation.
If you've used Facebook Places API:
- Visit the concerned business listing's Facebook page.
- Navigate to the ‘About’ section and locate the ‘Contact info’ map.
- Examine the pin location on this map.
- If the pin is not in the right location, get in touch with the business to inform them of the mistake. They need to correct the location information on their end.
- Keep in mind that changes on Facebook may take a few days to reflect in the Facebook API.
- In the meantime, you might want to remove the listing from your map and add it back once the location data has been corrected by the business.
If you've manually entered the place:
- Open the listing in the snippets editor.
- On the left-hand side of that listing, you'll find the map with a pencil icon above it. Click this icon.
- Using your cursor, drag the map to the correct location.
- Once you've identified the right location, click the map to drop the pin marker there.
- Click 'Confirm location'.
- Finally, click 'Update item' to save your changes. This should rectify the map zooming issue by adjusting the misplaced pin.
By following these steps, you should be able to correct any misplotted locations on your map and prevent unwanted zoom-outs.
